Rosie is one of Olivier Duhamel’s most recognisable and celebrated works—a contemporary reinterpretation of the classical torso, rendered with the precision and rhythm that have come to define the artist’s practice. Composed of finely stacked wooden laminations, the sculpture transforms the human form into a topographical landscape, where each contour is articulated through a succession of parallel layers.
Though abstracted, Rosie retains an unmistakable physicality and presence. The layered construction invites the viewer to read the figure simultaneously as body and pattern, anatomy and architecture. The result is a sculpture that feels at once intimate and monumental—an exploration of form, rhythm, and the beauty found in reduction.
A signature work in Duhamel’s oeuvre, Rosie exists in numerous editions, from small-scale desktop pieces to larger gallery and outdoor versions. While the original is carved in laminated wood, the sculpture has also been cast in bronze, resin, and composite materials, each medium revealing new aspects of the figure’s geometry and character. Across all versions, Rosie remains a defining example of Duhamel’s mastery of both the human form and the sculptural language of repetition and flow.
Other series exists at different scale, material and colours.
