This elegant bronze sculpture by Olivier Duhamel distills the human figure to a single, elongated leg and a fragment of torso, creating a compelling balance between presence and absence. Rising lightly from the tip of one foot, the form stretches upward in a fluid, uninterrupted line, evoking grace, poise, and the quiet strength of a dancer held mid-movement.
The torso is rendered as a hollowed shell, its edges opening outward like a peeled ribbon of metal. This interplay between smooth, polished exterior and dark, cavernous interior introduces a striking contrast: solidity versus void, body versus memory, figure versus abstraction. The missing segments do not diminish the form; instead, they intensify its sensuality and invite the viewer to complete the gesture with their own imagination.
Duhamel’s mastery of anatomy is evident in the subtle modelling of muscle and contour, while the warm patina softens the bronze, giving the sculpture an almost skin-like presence. Light glides along the curved surfaces, intensifying the sculpture’s verticality and the effortless elegance of its stance.
Both delicate and assertive, this work exemplifies Duhamel’s ongoing exploration of the human form at the threshold between realism and abstraction—an intimate study of movement, beauty, and the expressive power of what is suggested rather than fully revealed.
